Message from Lucky Jackson

Coming out of high school, I had one college offer: Western Kentucky University. I went undrafted. I paid $100 to attend a pop-up combine most people would have skipped, and that single decision led to a training camp invite with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. From there: Edmonton Elks, DC Defenders, three years with the Minnesota Vikings, and the UFL.

I've been cut. I've been overlooked. I've been told no by people who didn't watch my film.

And I've learned something most people in this game never put on paper: there is a process. It's just that no one ever taught it to you.

So I wrote it all down. All of it.

What readers are saying

Real words from real readers

After a concussion left me confined to a dark room, I found myself listening to the audio of Lucky's words during my healing process. His writing became the voice I leaned on in my darkest moments. The wisdom in this book isn't just for children, it holds a space for anyone trying to find their way back to themselves... back to who they were before adversity showed up, now just wiser.

Lucky's story is real, raw, and relatable. It gives young men something they don't get often: hope they can believe in.

As a teacher, it meant the world to bring my students along for the ride while I illustrated this book. They got to see every step, from sketches to final pages, and witness a dream come to life in real time. That experience showed them their goals are possible too.
